Nigeria – At least three people have been killed or are missing due to flash floods in Kwara, Nigeria. A bridge embankment collapsed in Oko-Erin leaving one person dead and two others missing. Heavy downpours destroyed 100 houses and displaced at least 300 people in Eket Local Government Area.

Ivory Coast – Heavy rains and floods in parts of southern Ivory Coast have damaged buildings, blocked roads, disrupted transport and caused landslides. The districts of Andre Chateau d’Eau, Abobo-Belleville and Riviera Palmeraie were the worst affected.

Indonesia – Flooding has once again hit parts of Aceh Province in Indonesia after heavy rain caused several rivers to overflow on 16 June.

Guatemala & Honduras – Heavy rain has triggered flooding and landslides in parts of Guatemala and Honduras over the last few days. Two people have died after heavy rain triggered a landslide in western Honduras. The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) in Guatemala reports that landslides and flooding have affected over 4,000 people from 16 June. A landslide in San Pedro Necta, Huehuetenango, has blocked parts of the CA-1 road, preventing the passage of hundreds of vehicles. Landslides were also reported in Nentón, about 35km to the north, where Conred has distributed relief supplies to affected families.

Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) in Thailand reports that severe weather including wind storms, high waves and heavy rain has affected several provinces over the last few days.

England – Heavy rain has caused flash floods in the Bournemouth and Poole areas. The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Bournemouth, stating there was a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

England – In the East Midlands, shops, homes and streets were flooded as parts of the area were deluged in a short space of time. It followed storms on Tuesday, which saw lightning strikes damage homes and cause buildings, including Walsall Manor Hospital, to flood. The Met Office warned of potential flooding to homes and businesses as well as possible “lightning strikes, hail or strong winds”. On Wednesday afternoon trains were disrupted between Birmingham New Street and Whitlocks End due to heavy rain flooding the railway line. There were also reports of roads being flooded across the region.

The rain is expected to ease into the weekend but groundwater levels continue to rise in parts of southern England after prolonged downpours. The Environment Agency (EA) has warned of flooding in 30 areas.

Spain – flooding hit the town of Reinosa in Cantabria and has been described by residents as the worst in history, with reports saying water levels rose because of heavy winds and rain. Roads in the town became raging torrents carrying away cars. Reinosa has 9,000 inhabitants and there are reports of blackouts. Residents have been evacuated with powerful waves flowing through doors and garages.

Washington, USA – A storm that has brought record rainfall to the Northwest has prompted flood warnings, disrupted train traffic, closed roads and caused some power outages. In Washington state flood warnings were posted Friday for the Skokomish, Newaukum Tolt, Chehalis and Snoqualmie rivers and flood watches were in effect for other rivers. The National Weather Service also issued a flood watch for much of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington.

England – Flooding is causing travel disruption across the south east of England after heavy rain overnight. Major roads and numerous railway lines have been closed.

Uzbekistan – A landslide in a construction site at Yunusabad metro line in Tashkent, Uzbekistan due to heavy rain has claimed the lives of at least six people.

England – Devon and Cornwall Police have declared a major incident after flash flooding in Heyler. According to the Cornwall Council, around 50 properties have been affected by flooding in the area. There are 18 flood warnings in place across England, mainly across the South, South West and River Severn.

Somalia – The death toll from recent flooding in Somalia has risen to 17 people with more than 370,000 people being displaced.

England – Floods have paralyzed parts of north England, with roads and train lines shuttered and people stranded in a shopping mall, unable to leave. As of Thursday evening, the UK Environment Agency had issued 99 flood warnings across the country, with 117 further lower level alerts indicating possible floods in place. Sheffield, a major city in South Yorkshire, was one of the worst hit areas. According to the National Rail, a number of train lines across South Yorkshire were disrupted by the flooding.

Mega-Lightning Flashes – Two of America’s newest weather satellites have measured the longest lightning discharge ever observed — a 300-mile bolt that flashed across northern Texas, Oklahoma and southwestern Kansas. The announcement of the epic discharge at 1:13 a.m. local time on Oct. 22, 2017, was just published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. But unpublished data from the same lightning mappers on the GOES-16 and GOES-17 satellites shows an even longer “megaflash” streaked 418 miles over Brazil earlier this year. Neither lightning bolt has yet been verified by the World Meteorological Organization.

England – Major London train stations were closed yesterday as a result of flooding, including Moorgate, St Pauls, Victoria and London Liverpool Street. Yesterday saw a month’s worth of rain dumped in some areas of the UK in as little as six hours, with bad weather expected to continue today. Commuters suffered evening rush hour misery as four central London stations were hit by flooding following huge downpours in the capital on Tuesday. Liverpool Street station saw the worst of the chaos, with the rain forcing numerous rail services to be delayed and cancelled. Meanwhile, Tube routes were also closed. Water at the station was said to be ankle deep in some parts of the concourse, with Network Rail adding: “An overflowing storm drain on the roof meant excess water came onto the tracks causing multiple track circuit and signal failures. Meanwhile, at Victoria station – the second busiest in the UK – trains on
the District and Circle lines were not stopping.

England – Heavy rain is causing flash flooding and travel problems on roads across England. Five flood warnings and 40 flood alerts remain in place across much of the country. Flooded roads and cancelled trains have caused evening rush hour chaos for commuters as heavy rain, wind and thunder battered parts of the UK. England – Hundreds of homes were evacuated in a Derbyshire town on Thursday when a dam threatened to burst after being damaged during extreme rainfall. Around 1,400 people in 400 houses in Whaley Bridge were told to leave their properties with just minutes’ notice due to “an unprecedented, fast-moving, emergency situation” caused by heavy downpours. Toddbrook reservoir – which contains around 1.3m tonnes of water – suffered extensive damage during the flooding on Thursday, with images showing a huge hole in the dam wall.

Flash floods in North Yorkshire washed away roads and caused a bridge to collapse. Pittsburgh, USA – Flooding has caused damage across the Pittsburgh area after another round of storms. An estimated 10,000 Pittsburgh homes remained without power Thursday after two days of flooding. The rain, which brought down trees and took down power lines, is expected to delay a full restoration of the power system until at least Friday morning.

USA – The powerful storm lashing the northeastern United States on Friday killed at least five people as winds topping 129 km per hour helped flood streets in Boston, ground flights and halt train service across the region. Almost 1.7 million homes and businesses were without power in the Northeast and Midwest as the storm pummelled the East Coast from Virginia to Maine. Government offices in Washington closed as winds gusted to more than 60 mph in the US capital. A flood surge at extreme high tide sent seawater into Boston’s coastal streets, the second time this year that the area had flooded. Wind gusts approaching 70 mph helped force in the water while downing trees and power lines.

England – Flooding has hit parts of southwestern England as Storm Emma lashes the coast with powerful winds and heavy seas, bringing chaos to a region which is already struggling to cope after two days of blizzards and sub-zero temperatures. Dawlish railway station near Teignmouth in South Devon has been engulfed by hides tides whipped up by Storm Emma and there has also been flooding in seafront areas of Paignton and Torquay which residents said were “under a foot of water”. Flood warnings have been issued for the whole of south Cornwall coast from Land’s End to Lizard Point and Mount’s Bay and remain in force.

England – The breathtaking supermoon sparked a wave of floods across England leaving some commuters travelling in waist deep waters. Floodwater was reported along the east coast after 37 official flood alerts were launched. The supermoon together with stormy weather resulted in a large tidal surge moving down the East Coast of England on Thursday evening.

Malawi – One person is confirmed dead while hundreds of households have been left homeless following floods on Tuesday night at Lupembe in the Karonga District.

France – Rain has continued to fall in France, meaning the floods in Paris and beyond are set to hang around. Several Metro stations in Paris were closed on Thursday morning as floodwaters got onto the tracks, while areas in northern France remain underwater. Meanwhile, in the Eure department to the north of France, 16 towns are without drinking water.

England – Heavy rain has forced the closure of several roads and caused localised flooding in Cumbria. A number of properties in Mainsgate Road and Market Street in Millom have been affected. There has also been some flooding in Windermere, Ings and Kirkby-in-Furness. Cumbria Police is asking people to avoid the area.

Thailand – Hundreds of houses, several roads and temples in Trang’s four districts were hit by flash floods late on Friday night following over six hours of heavy downpours. The water levels of floods in the four districts of Mueang, Kantang, Palian and Yan Ta Khao ranged from 20 centimetres to 1.5 metres high. With insufficient time to move their belongings upstairs, the late-night flash flooding damaged many people’s property. Many moved to stay on their second floor, while others first took refuge in temples for the night and sought help from municipalities to set up tents on higher ground near their homes so that they could watch over them. Main roads were impassable in multiple sections due to deep water, prompting vehicles to use bypasses and resulting in traffic congestion on Saturday morning.

Bangladesh – Fifteen villages of four unions in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur were flooded as a flood control embankment collapsed due to strong current of onrushing water from upstream of Moharashi river early Saturday. Following the collapse of 70-80 feet of the dam near Jhenigati-Rangtia road, Upazila Parishad, Jhenigati Bazar and adjacent areas went under 2-4 feet water around 8:00am. Locals said low-lying areas of 15 villages of Dhanshail, Sherpur sadar, Malijhikanda and Hatibanda unions in Jhenaigati upazila of the district were inundated. The incident created panic among the people living near the river.
