Extreme weather wreaks havoc in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Floodwaters swept five people away in northern KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend. Three further people who were washed down the Chibide River at Silutshane, near Vryheid are still missing. The widespread rain and storms have caused chaos and misery everywhere, especially on the roads and informal settlements.

Tropical Storm Prapiroon, which spawned overnight Sunday, is lurking nearly 800 miles south-southeast of Okinawa, drifting slowly west.

Tropical Storm Nadine finally broke up after tying the record for longest-lived storm. The storm grew into a hurricane three times, lost its tropical status once, made two loops and brushed the Azores twice on a twisting path around the central Atlantic as the basin’s 14th storm of the 2012 season.

Tropical Storm Olivia is strengthening over open waters in the eastern Pacific but poses no threat to land.

After a nearly three weak long reign as the only active cyclone in the Atlantic basin, Tropical Storm Nadine is weakening this evening. Meteorologists are expecting the formation of Tropical Storm Oscar in the Atlantic.

Flooding during the rainy season has affected hundreds of thousands of people in Niger. As a result of the floods, nearly 37,000 houses have been destroyed. 81 people lost their lives and more than 500,000 are affected, mostly in areas along the Niger River.

Las Vegas has been hit by flash floods and mudslides. On Tuesday, torrential downpours left parts of the city underwater. Flash floods washed out roads, stranded motorists, and left thousands without power. Some areas had to contend with up to four feet of flash flood water.
