In the Atlantic Ocean: Tropical Storm Franklin is located about 75 mi…125 km S of Tuxpan Mexico and about 105 mi…165 km WNW of Veracruz Mexico with maximum sustained winds…70 mph…110 km/h. Present movement…W or 260 degrees at 15 mph…24 km/h.

Franklin is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 4 to 8 inches with isolated maximum of 15 inches possible across the Mexican states of northern Veracruz, Puebla, tlaxacala, eastern guanajuato, Hidalgo, queretaro and eastern San Luis Potosi in eastern Mexico. These rains are capable of producing life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.

England – A month’s worth of rain was set to fall on the UK on Wednesday as severe downpours brought flooding to large parts of the country. Flash flooding hit towns and villages in the East Riding of Yorkshire and north-east Lincolnshire. There was a metre (3ft) of standing water in parts of Withernsea, and further flooding in the Grimsby and Immingham areas.

Thailand – Flooding persisted in nine provinces on Wednesday, mostly in the Northeast, with more than 570,000 families affected by the floods that have ravaged much of the country over the last month. A total of 4,129 houses, 2,055 roads, 14,097 fish ponds, and over 3 million rai of agricultural land have been damaged.

Rare wildfires are burning in Greenland. Today marks day 10 since the blaze was first detected by instruments aboard NASA satellites.

Wildfires – France

A forest fire raged in parched southern France on Thursday, forcing 400 campers and residents to flee, firefighters said.

The blaze has been contained after ravaging 500 hectares (1,250 acres) of pine forest and bush 40 kilometres (25 miles) southwest of Montpellier, the fire service said.

Some 200 firefighters were still battling the blaze, with strong winds expected during the day. At the height of the blaze 800 firefighters were involved.

Wildfires – Montana, USA

There are new evacuations for the Sunrise Fire, which is burning about 14,500 acres between Superior and Alberton. The fire is 10-percent contained.

The Rice Ridge is now 10-percent contained at 9,286 acres.

The Lolo Peak Fire ten miles southwest of Lolo now clocks in at 7,453-acres.

The 4, 231 acre Liberty Fire southeast of Arlee is now 90-percent contained.

The 13, 236 acre Meyers Fire is burning about 25 miles southwest of Philipsburg and is now 4-percent contained.

30-percent containment now reported on the 860-acre Sliderock Fire.

the 8,056 acre Little Goat Fire which is now 75-percent contained.

The Sapphire Complex, 25 miles south/southeast of Missoula in the Rock Creek drainage is at 27,528 acres and 32-percent containment.

Disease

San Diego hepatitis A update

In a follow-up on the hepatitis A outbreak in San Diego County, CA, the number of cases reported this year has climbed to 312, including 10 fatalities, according to latest health department data. Of the cases, nearly seven out of 10 patients required hospitalization for their illness (215).

Measles in Nigeria

A measles disease outbreak has been reported in 10 local governments areas of northern Nigeria’s Taraba State, health authorities said Wednesday. There have been 140 cases of measles so far the state. The majority of those affected were children under five years, who had not been vaccinated. The disease, a leading killer in developing countries like Nigeria, was showing a steady rise in Taraba.
