Dozens of streams and springs dry up in the Kullu region in northern India. The flow of major rivers has also dropped dramatically, placing pressure on available drinking water resources. Insufficient and declining snowfalls are being blamed for this phenomenon.


A number of large earthquakes have been reported during this period:

5.8 Earthquake hits northern Italy killing at least 15 people. Many buildings damaged in last week’s earthquake have now collapsed. 5.4 and 5.1 magnitude aftershocks hit the area.

5.9 Earthquake hits south of the Fiji islands. A further 5.0 Earthquake hits the same area.

5.6 Earthquake hits Komandorskiye Ostrova, Russia.

5.8 Earthquake hits Tonga.

5.3 Earthquake hits near the east coast of honshu, Japan.

5.0 Earthquake hits Sulawesi, Indonesia.

4.8 Earthquake hits Hebei Province, northern China.



Large wildfires in Michigan and New Mexido, USA continue to burn. The Michigan fire has burned more than 30 square miles and destroyed more than 100 buildings, 34 of them homes.

The New Mexico fire has now burned more than 190 square miles (122 000 acres). Firefighters continue to battle both blazes.
